Bedda’s turn for some TLC [ENG & ITA]

We were with the Marchese’s near Pizzo for 4 hours in the end, swopping tales and email addresses.  Bedda’s few electrics were back working perfectly and a she looked happy with her new set of brake pads.  Finally back on the road, we blitzed across the toe towards Catanzaro on the Ionic coast.  For anyone with a map, you’ll notice we’re not exactly taking the shortest way home, but with thoughts of my Mum & Dad (Sara) who had a great time in Puglia a few years ago, we fancied seeing a bit more of Southern Italy before heading up towards Rome.  We’ve had some good recommendations via Facebook too of things to see.  Keep those coming!

Oh, but if only it were that easy!  Unseen, Bedda had been losing brake fluid since Pizzo, and so we had to stop (with the handbrake!)  and call in the cavalry.  A friendly ACI (like the AA) man  gave us all a lift to another garage where they repaired a leaking brake tube.

Today, we made up for lost time and cleared a good 200km along the southern side of the toe towards Taranto, top speed 70kph with one wheel in the hard shoulder to let traffic by!  We’re camped up by the sea again now.  Lucky Bedda is having a well-deserved wash & wax with Franc, and I’m washing our dirty clothes!!!  There are even a couple of washed up deckchairs on the beach so we may be able to star gaze in luxury tonight.

Siamo stati con la famiglia Marchese vicino Pizzo per 4 ore, passando storie e indirizzi email.  La sistema elletronica di Bedda funzionavano dinuovo perfettamente e sembrava contenta con le sue nuove ganci e freni.  Finalmente ritornati sul asfalto, abbiamo attraversato il dito d’Italia verso Catanzaro sulla costa  Ionica. Per quelli con un a carta geografica, capite che non stiamo essatamente seguendo la strada piu corta verso il Regno Unito – ma con pensieri di miei genitori (Sara) che hanno passato una vacanza immemorabile in Puglia pochi anni fa, volevamo vedere un po del sud prima di andarci verso Roma.  Ci avete avvisato delle belle cose da vedere in Puglia tramite Facebook, e quindi grazie a voi per gli suggeriment.

Oh, si. Se ci fosse cosi semplice. Segretamente, Bedda stava perdendo l’olio degli freni sul viaggio da Pizzo e abbiamo dovuto fermarci (con il freno a mano) e chiamare rinforzamenti.  Un meccanico amichevole dal ACI ci ha trasportato ad un garage dove hanno riparato il tubo bucato metre noi due raccogliavemo uva dal proprietario accanto.

Oggi, abbiamo ricuperato il tempo perso e coperto 200km sull lato sud verso Taranto. Velocita massimo 70kph con due ruote nella sosta d’emergenza per fare passare il traffico piu veloce!  Siamo gia campeggiando sta sera, vicino al mare. Franc sta lavando a Bedda e mettendo la cera – mentre io Sara, sto lavando nostre vestiti sporchi!! Sulla spiaggia, abbiamo trovato anche due sdraie di legno abbandonati e cosi possiamo rilassarci in lusso sta sera guardando le stelle! Che vita di vagabondi meravigliosa.
